What to prepare before checking
Before opening either service, gather the applicant's details. Without them the system will not find the case or will return a «no consta» error.
- NIE or DNI of the applicant — shown on the TIE card, residence permit, or at the top of the application form. For citizenship you need the DNI if one has already been assigned.
- Case number (número de expediente) — shown on the filing receipt (resguardo) or in the electronic admission notice.
- Type of application — residence, renewal, modification of conditions, or citizenship. The type tells you which service to use: infoext2 or «cómo va lo mío».
- Year and province of filing — needed for the infoext2 lookup.
What you need
- The case number (número de expediente) shown on your filing receipt.
- The applicant's NIE or passport number.
- The year of filing and the province where the case was lodged.
- For some services, a digital certificate or Cl@ve.
Two official routes
The infoext2.delegaciondelgobierno.gob.es portal shows the status of immigration cases across Spain by case number and province.
Citizenship by residence has its own Ministry of Justice service, «Cómo va lo mío», which shows the processing stage of the file.
- Infoext2 — immigration case status
Residence and work permit status by case number and province
- «Cómo va lo mío» — Ministry of Justice
Stage of a citizenship-by-residence file
What each status means
- En trámite — the file is admitted and under review; nothing is required from you.
- Requerimiento / subsanación — documents are requested; you have 10 working days to reply.
- Resuelto favorable — approved; next step is the fingerprint appointment and your TIE card.
- Resuelto desfavorable — refused; an administrative appeal is due within one month, a court appeal within two.
- No consta — the file is not yet in the system or the number is wrong.
If the status never changes
Processing times depend on the permit type and the province. Once the legal deadline has passed with no change, you can file a formal request to move the case forward and, in some cases, rely on administrative silence.
First make sure no requerimiento went unread: notices usually arrive electronically only, and a missed deadline is the most common reason files are closed.
